McNeely announces exploratory committee

"McNeely Explore 2022" Exploratory Committee Announcement & News Conference.

(Rockford, IL) Rockford City Alderwoman Linda McNeely will hold a news conference and media availability on Thursday morning, August 5, to announce that she is forming an exploratory committee as an early first step to “test the waters” and help determine whether she will move forward as a potential candidate for higher office in 2022.

“What would it take to ensure that our district can go from good to great!”

Forming an exploratory committee allows a potential candidate a means by which to poll, to travel within the district, to poll, to make phone calls, survey public concerns, fundraise, etc. before deciding whether to declare their intent to seek a future position. For the time being, the “McNeely Explore 2022’ Exploratory Committee will focus its attention on urban and rural areas of the current 17th Congressional District, keeping in mind that those boundaries may change when the new redistricted map is produced by Illinois state lawmakers.

“There are serious needs and issues that are going unmet right now, that affect residents across this district,” McNeely says. “I believe we need more effective representation than we’ve been getting to bring improvement to all of our cities, small towns and rural areas.”

Now in her 6th term on the Rockford City Council, McNeely brings to the table over 20 years of municipal public service, plus several terms as a Democratic State Central Committeewoman. She is also an experienced business accountant with B.A. in Political Science from the University of Denver and an M.A. in Accounting/Taxation from Roosevelt University.

Alderman McNeely says she looks forward to meeting district residents and hearing their concerns. She will on her next steps sometime in the fall, after the Illinois General Assembly finalizes the state’s new Congressional District map, which is not expected to occur for several more weeks.
